The Director of the University of Cape Coast Health Services, Dr. Evans Ekanem has revealed in a special interview that the suspected case of COVID 19 yesterday, Tuesday, 17th March, 2020 turned out to be negative after the test was conducted at the NOGUCHI Memorial Institute today.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Razza Ahmed on the Ocean Drive show on ATL FM, Dr. Ekanem noted that after the series of meetings with several dignitaries in the health sector here in the region, he is happy to announce that the test results showed negative and thus it doesn’t add to the numbers to make it 8.
“There have been a lot of ups and downs, I’eve had meetings with the Regional director of Health directorate, I’ve had meetings with the Metropolitan Director of health, all along the coronavirus. Along side waiting for the test result that was taken for our suspected client, that was taken to the NOGUCHI Memorial Institute and Research Centre at the University of Ghana, Legon. We are happy to inform you that the results are in and by the grace of God, it tested negative” he said.
He further added that the situation as reported was the sole or only suspected case of coronavirus case reported at the hospital and the region at large, hence no one should panic especially as it has tested negative.
“This has been the only and solely suspected case at the hospital, and thankfully this has been negative”.
Coronavirus has for sometime now spread to Africa and especially Ghana over the past few weeks. Yesterday, a Ghanaian who had returned from America was alleged to had shown some symptoms that were similar to that of the COVID- 19.
As a result, he went to the University of Cape Coast Hospital, where his blood sample was taken to the NOGUCHI Memorial Institute at the University of Ghana, Legon, where his blood sample was tested to ascertain the veracity of the suspicion.
