With community spread very prevalent, Cape Coast, Komenda Edina Eguaafo Abirem, Kasoa and Mfantsiman have proved to be epicenters of Covid – 19 as revealed by the Central Regional Deputy Director of Public Health, Dr. Godfred Sarpong.
Coronavirus pandemic in the Central Region has taken a different dimension. Currently, it sits third on the Regional infectious log with 192 cases albeit further collation of results is underway.
According to Dr. Godfred Sarpong, who was speaking on the Atlantic Wave morning show on ATL FM, he indicated that these four parts of the region had become epicenters and produced huge cases of infections of coronavirus.
Cape Coast, KEEA and other Covid-19 epicenters increase in case count.
Even though, Dr. Sarpong was unable to give the exact figures of these epicenters, he made reference to some few developments.
“Cape Coast, KEEA, Kasoa and Mfantsiman have become epicenters for the spread of the Covid -19 virus. Even though I don’t have the actual figures, what is clear in the region is that Cape Coast, KEEA, Kasoa and Mfantsiman are clearly epicenters of Covid – 19”.
He therefore attributed it to the process involved in getting access to the numbers before a declaration is made finally and released to the media.
“Like I said, we are still collating the figures from what we had Yesterday and we still waiting for some more results from the Ghana Health Service. What happens is that when the labs release the results, it goes to the disease surveillance department or division of the Ghana Health Service. Then it is forwarded to us at the Regional level to show that these are the number of cases that have come” he added.
In addition, Dr. Sarpong added that KEEA seemed to have recorded a lot of cases according to the data they had, although they were awaiting more results. Dr. Sarpong indicated that KEEA had recorded about 57 cases with Cape Coast having recorded between 35 to 40 cases. Kasoa also rubbing shoulders with Cape Coast along the same numbers, 35 and Mfantsiman recording about 8 cases. All these areas especially KEEA are epicneters.
Covid 19 hot spots in Central Region
“I can clearly tell you that Cape Coast is in about 35 to 40 cases. KEEA has emerged as the hottest spot for the virus in the region now, with about 56 or 57 cases. Kasoa is also following with about 34 to 35 cases. Mfantsiman is also getting a lot more figures, entering into double figures. Some of our districts that have not recorded have also recorded their first cases.
Finally, he added that places like Dunkwaw on Offin, Ajumako, Winneba, and other places in the region have either recorded their first cases or have increased their case loads.
