Covid-19: Religious Affairs Minister discourages the waving of handkerchiefs and dancing at church.

With the President gradually easing the ban on social gatherings, a litany of regulations has been spelt out. The Religious Affairs Minister, Mr Kofi Dzamesi has discouraged the waving of handkerchiefs and dancing at church sermons.

In a televised video, yesterday, President Akufo Addo announced the gradual phases of easing restrictions. Addressing the nation in his tenth appearance, President Akufo revealed that the Religious Affairs Minister, Mr Kofi Dzamesi would outline the roadmap for the gradual easing of restrictions on religious activities.

Speaking at a press briefing, today, Monday, and monitored by Obcommunication.com, Religious Affairs Minister, Mr Dzamesi revealed among many others that handkerchiefs and dancing are now prohibited during church service.

“Churches must ensure that these regulations are adhered to strictly. Thermometer guns are provided for checking the temperature of congregants upon entry into the church. Ensure No Mask No Entry policy. No crowd dancing and waving of handkerchiefs during church service” he stated.

Persons with Underlying conditions advised to stay away from church by the Religious Affairs Minister.

In addition to these directives, he further went on to state that older persons with underlying conditions such as asthma, diabetes, liver cancer, heart conditions.

“Unwell persons are not allowed to go to church. Older persons with underlying conditions, heart diseases, diabetes, liver disease and diabetes are advised to stay away from church service”.

However, he has added that e financial transactions, like mobile money and other non-physical forms of financial transaction.

Interestingly, in the face of COVID -19, “no laying on of hands” should be encouraged. This is in tandem to achieving social distancing during church service period.

Even though, the misconceptions about Covid-19 is widespread, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified campaign against the misconception that drinking the local gin (Akpeteshie) among other unregistered concoctions are protection or cure for Covid-19.
