The Minister of Health has hinted that in the near future, Doctor in Pharmacy will be the minimum qualification for anyone who expresses interest in being a pharmacist. He said this statement at an Induction Ceremony of some registered Pharmacists in Accra.
Dr. Kweku Agyemang Manu, Health Minister under the Akuffo Addo led government has hinted at an induction ceremony for newly qualified and registered pharmacists under the theme, ”Pioneering the changing face of Pharmacy Education and Practice in Ghana, the Role of Policy and Regulation”, the Health Minister indicated that the government would in the near future demand A Doctor in Pharmacy as a basic or minimum qualification for anyone who has the desire to be registered as a pharmacist especially as it is a World Health Organization (WHO) standard.
“Today’s induction ceremony has as part of the inductees, the second batch of the Doctor of Pharmacy graduates which shall in the very near future be the minimum qualification for registration as pharmacists in our country”.
He further added that it is a WHO prescription and standards and especially as the Ministry has fought to gain some financial clearance for the graduates to undertake their houseman ship.
“This is a WHO prescription and standards. That is the new trend. The ministry in collaboration with council has managed to secure financial clearance for funding graduates the graduates to undertake their houseman ship in the various health facilities as pertains with our medical doctors”.
At the event, four hundred and ten (410) graduates were inducted. They are expecting to start their houseman ship in the next few weeks.
