Manchester City defender, Eric Garcia has broken the hearts of the “Citizens” as he joins the (Camp Nou) “boys”, Barcelona in a five year deal following Aguero who has signed a 2-year deal.
Sergio Aguero emerged as the first signing from Manchester City to join his compatriot Lionel Messi at Camp Nou in a two-year deal.
Eric Garcia, former Manchester City Defender
Eric García had a very marvellous career at Manchester City when he moved from La Masia at the age of 17 to Manchester City and spent three seasons giving a good account of himself.
The former City defender, Eric Garcia will join Barcelona on July 1, when his contract ends this month (June).
Although his departure seems to be a difficult one, the Manchester defender has to taste life elsewhere after pitching camp at the Etihad Stadium where he has enjoyed a lot of Champions League action.
He becomes the second player after Sergio Aguero to leave Pep Guardiola’s men and ink a juicy deal, committing to a five-year deal at Camp Nou.
Garcia was unveiled at Barcelona today, Tuesday 1st June, but will officially join the club on a free transfer.
The 20-year-old has spent the last four years of his career at City, having been plucked out of the Blaugrana’s famed La Masia academy, but has now returned to familiar surroundings.
Eric had made a strong decision not to stay at the Etihad from the beginning of the season as he refused to extend his contract at the Etihad stadium.
This, therefore, gave Barcelona the opportunity to sign him as a free agent at the end of the EPL season after he helped the Sky Blue men to defend their EPL trophy successfully.
He picked up Premier League and Carabao Cup winners’ medals at the Etihad; however, he missed out on a
Champions League triumph after Guardiola’s side were beaten in the final by Chelsea on Saturday.
Barca has confirmed the signing of Garcia in a statement on their website.
