Government distributes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and logistics to 234 universities in the country.

Following the easing of restrictions in the country, universities are to reopen tomorrow, June 15, 2020, for final year students.

Senior High and Junior High Schools are to also supposed to follow suit in the coming days.

The distribution is being done by the Ghana Armed Forces. It began on Saturday 13th June 2020 and forms part of the first phase of PPE and logistical supplies to educational institutions in the country.

Addressing journalists in Accra, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the 234 tertiary institutions are dotted across the country.

He said 57 are in the Greater Accra Region, 31 in the Ashanti Region, 18 in the Central Region, 14 in the Northern Region, 22 in the Eastern Region, 17 in the Volta Region, 11 in the Western Region, 14 in the Bono Region, 11 in the Upper East Region, 11 in the Upper West Region, 9 in the Ahafo Region, 6 in the Bono East Region, 5 in the Western North, 3 in the Oti Region, 4 in the Savannah Region and 1 in the North East Region.

President Akufo-Addo in his tenth address to the nation, announced the partial reopening of schools for final year students at various levels to write their final exams.

The Information Minister said the government is doing all it can as it distributes PPE and other logistical support to the various schools to make sure they operate smoothly.

“In all, we are expecting about 200,000 persons to benefit from these logistics. In terms of the specific logistics, everybody is getting three face masks which are reusable so that will be about 600,000 unit of face masks,” he added.

The Minister said over 1,700 veronica buckets, over 200,000 two hundred ML units of hand sanitizers, and over 3,400 packets of soap and another 3,400 packets of tissue are being distributed.

“About 900 thermometers are also going to all of these schools in addition to the disinfection and other exercises that are going on there,” he added.
