The Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS) President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has finally broken his silence on the SARS brutalities ongoing in Nigeria as he says he has spoken with President Muhamadu Buhari.
A few moments ago, President Akufo-Addo sent a message of solidarity to the Nigerians and especially the youths who have been brutalized by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), which has long been accused of unlawful arrests, torture and extrajudicial killings.
President Akufo- Addo sent a tweet during the late hours of Wednesday, 21st October 2020 afternoon, urging that peace and calm be restored since violence can never solve the issue at hand. President Nana Addo also added that he had spoken with Nigerian president, President Muhamadu Buhari, who is committed to ending the SARS brouhaha.
“I join all well-meaning persons in calling for calm, and the use of dialogue in resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria. I have spoken with President Buhari, who is committed to this end, and has begun the processes that will lead to reform,” the tweet stated.
He commiserated with the families that have lost their dear ones and expressed his condolences as well, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
“Violence, be it on the part of the Police or protesters, cannot be the solution. To the families who have lost their loved ones, I express my sincere condolences, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” it added.
Some celebrities have asked President Akufo-Addo to act and ensure that the alleged brutalities are brought to bay. Many among the tall list include Yvonne Nelson, Lydia Forson etc. However, “Omo ada” hit singer Samuel Adu Frimpong, also known as Medikal has quickly debunked claims that President Akufo-Addo has been quiet.
He added that the president’s silence doesn’t mean he is seated aloof, but may be working behind the scenes, hence Nigerian president, President Muhamadu Buhari must be blamed for his incompetence as noted in a tweet chanced upon by obcommunication.com.
