As part of his campaign message when he addressed residents of New Takoradi, flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama intimated that the BlackStar Shipping Line falls part of plans of the NDC government’s manifesto to revamp majority of Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s abandoned industries.

Apart from revamping majority of Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s abandoned industries, he was also looking at using it as a means of increasing the employment opportunities in the country especially seamen.

“If you check the NDC’s People’s Manifesto, we have stated clearly that the Black Star Shipping Line that Dr Kwame Nkrumah created a lot of jobs for the Ghanaian youth and seamen. So that NDC will bring back that Black Star Shipping Line to help create jobs.”

Mr Mahama, however, bemoaned the inability of the current ruling government, New Patriotic Party led by President Akufo-Addo to continue some of the projects they had wanted to implement before they left office in 2016.

“Our expectation was that the NPP government would continue to implement the construction of the new regional hospital, but they didn’t. So it is my belief that, when the NDC returns into government, we will build a brand-new regional hospital for the Western Region”.

According to him, they were in the process of constructing a new Regional hospital for the Western Region. He added that preparations were far advanced. They had secured land for the construction, but it couldn’t commence because it wasn’t litigation free.

“We were in the process to build a new regional hospital for Western Region. The first plot of Land we secured for the hospital project had issues of litigation, so we had to leave it for another one. The second plot we secured also had the gas pipeline also passing through. It is in the mix of that, that we had to leave government”.

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama during his five-day campaign tour that ended over the weekend charged electorates to kick the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) out of government.

He made this admonishment when he called on the electorates to also show up in their numbers, be vigilant and kick the NPP out of government. According to him, the NPP has thrust a lot of economic difficulties on the ordinary citizen, hence it has become prudent that he is voted back into power so he will cease what he calls a struggling country caused by the Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
