After 10 years, Twitter is buzzing with reactions of Asamoah Gyan following his penalty miss during the South Africa 2010 world cup.

Today marks exactly 10 years after the general captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan missed a glorious penalty to make history. It would be recalled that during the first world cup on African soil, South Africa, 2010, Ghana had the opportunity to be the first African country to get to semi-finals of the Cup du monde.

However, Asamoah Gyan who had a penalty and a glorious opportunity to take Ghana to the glory land after a Dominic Adiyiah’s powerful header was scooped out from the post by the hand of the devil, “Luiz Suarez”.

Ghana and Uruguay were embroiled in a beautiful ding dong affair of beautiful technical display when the Blackstars had a penalty after a goal-bound ball was painfully scooped off by Barcelona star, Luiz Suarez during the dying embers of the second half of extra time.

Asamoah Gyan, who had been Ghana’s number one penalty kick taker during the competition broke hearts of many Ghanaians, other African countries and other neutrals who were behind Ghana to make a semi-final appearance for the first time, in their second appearance at the Mundial.

Sadly though, Asamoah’s shot hit the top of the goal post as he was in a hurry to celebrate in grand style showing off his great dancing skills in a song of victory, but this dream was to be deferred till a later date and another appearance which saw the Blackstars miss the opportunity to write their names in the books of history following their early exit in a shambolic 2014 world cup experience.

Today, 10 years later, Twitter users share their various feelings and misgivings as they mark ten (10) years of how Asamoah Gyan had to miss a penalty that would give the Blackstars an opportunity to make a semifinal berth. Some fans have quipped at him with sarcastic innuendos.

Interestingly, after Uruguay managed to sail through, they placed fourth as Germany annexed the trophy by beating Luiz Suarez’s teammate at Barcelona, Lionel Messi ‘s Argentina to kill the dreams of Messi of ever winning a world cup.
