We are not going to do House to House treatment – Mark Abugri

East Mamprusi Municipal Health Director, Mr. Mark Abugri has cautioned persons suffering from scabies in some sixteen (16) communities in the Northern sector of the country that soon there shall be treatment for the strange skin disease that is causing great harm in the Upper sector of the country. He announced this good news on an Accra based radio station, Joy FM.

Speaking on the news show, he was very excited they had finally been able to make arrangements to get the vaccines to fight the disease. However, he was quick to add that the treatment will begin in sixteen communities.

“I know that about sixteen communities have been affected. We are starting the treatment. We just came and pick the drugs from Tamale” he stressed.

He thus went on to stress that the treatment plan is for all the 16 communities and that it won’t be done on house to house basis.

“We are on our way back to work. The treatment is for all the 16 communities, but they would have to go to the health facilities for treatment. We are not going to do house to house treatment” he added.

It is thus reported that the treatment has started and it is expected to continue over the next few days. The affected communities of the scabies outbreak in the North East Region are expected to start to show signs of recovery few days after today.
The outbreak of this disease was first reported at Dagbriboari in the North East Region and has since spread to 16 communities in the past four months.

Scabies is a skin infestation caused by a mite known as the Sarcoptes scabiei. Untreated, these microscopic mites can live on your skin for months. They reproduce on the surface of your skin and then burrow into it and lay eggs. This causes an itchy, red rash to form on the skin.
