Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola has revealed one of the big secrets of the new manager, Thomas Tuchel in his fight for a Uefa Champions League glory.
Last Saturday, the Blues put in a spirited effort to beat Manchester City to double their Champions League trophy. A hard-fought victory kind courtesy a brilliant goal from a debutant Champions League finalist, Kai Havertz who joined Chelsea for this year.
Kai Havertz rounded Manchester City goalkeeper Edenson and comfortably placed the ball in a yawning net.
It is against this background that former striker of Chelsea, Gianfranco Zola has hailed Thomas Tuchel revealing something many also believe to be the secret or trick behind his triumph in what many would call a successful season.
According to Zola, who spoke with Italian media giants, Talk Sports, he mentioned that Tuchel’s ability to blend both the old and new players has been the trump card for him.
‘I think one of the successes of this Chelsea team has been that Thomas Tuchel has been able to mix young players with more experienced players,’ he said. ‘I believe this is a very good mix. ‘You have to have both because they push each other.’
However, Zola was also of the conviction that the inclusion of Brazil’s Thiago Silva, who arrived from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, played a major role in stabilizing the defence for Chelsea since he came with a freshness and an experience in the game; something most of Lampard’s boys at then lacked.
‘Thiago Silva, I don’t know him personally,’ he added. ‘But I can see the way he behaves on the pitch and the way he plays. ‘He must be very important for the young ones, in terms of being an example and showing ways to conduct yourself on the pitch’.
Thiago Silva sustained an injury during the finals of the Uefa Champions League but inspired the team to victory. Chelsea who placed fourth for the second time consecutively and winning the Champions league qualify automatically for next season’s elite competition.
